Case Studies to understand how diversification has happened previously, led by IFPRI

In the EGP, the agro-climatic and geographic factors favor diversification towards high-value crops that are market-oriented. There are examples of farmers and clusters of agricultural diversifications that have emerged across the region. We will use these case studies to understand the processes and practices that support diversification and to facilitate future scaling up. In particular, the case studies coordinated by IFPRI will explore:

a. constraints that prohibit farmers from adopting high-value crops

b. factors that draw farmers towards high-value crops, and drive them out of traditional crops

c. institutions and activities that have enabled the emergence and expansion of such clusters of diversifications

The case studies will explore clusters that exist across the region, and each case study will represent a different approach to diversification toward high-value crops.
