Province 1: Partners of Nepal

The two private partners from Province 1 of Nepal, Nepal Multipurpose Cooperative Society (NMC-COOP) and Jeevan Bikas Samaj (JBS), have consistently worked to create an environment that supports sustainable agriculture. Since the start of the ACIAR SDIP-supported Roadmaps project in 2019, NMC-COOP, JBS, and Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperative (MoLMAC) have worked together to create an environment that makes it easier for farmers to understand and advance their knowledge of sustainable agricultural mechanization. In the Rupantar project, we are collaborating with these partners once more.

NMC-COOP is currently concentrating on and offering its services via convenient stores, the dairy industry, an agricultural farm, custom hiring center and tea factory. But NMC-COOP started as a saving and credit cooperative in the year 1994 with an intention to provide security to people's hard-earned money. NMC-COOP has today been able to make a significant contribution to society and has won widespread support from the community.

Similarly, Jeevan Bikas Samaj (JBS) also began as a micro-finance institution in 2016. It is currently involved in a drive to bring about a new revolution in the sector of agriculture, education, and health. JBS has been running a custom hiring center in the agriculture industry, selling agri-machinery, and also giving farmers consultations as needed. Additionally, JBS promotes kitchen gardens, Zero Tillage farming, fruit nurseries, tunnel farming and bio-gas production. JBS has the ambition to transform smallholder farming into a modern, commercialized industry.

The Rupantar project is proud to work with partners like JBS and NMC-COOP to discover the procedures and methods that can be used to create scalable, sustainable, and diverse food systems in the Eastern Gangetic Plains.
